Couargeous Joy

December is often associated with joy. Yet, how do we find real joy amidst a fallen world? While it is still dark and will likely only get darker. Not joy as in a warm, fuzzy feeling or happiness. Or naive optimism. I’ve been wondering if perhaps joy and sorrow are inextricably intertwined. Maybe we can’t get to joy without passing through heartache and lament. We can’t recognize light until we’ve seen darkness. Joy invites us to celebrate beauty and goodness that often lives next to suffering. Joy is praying “Lord have mercy” and then singing “Alleluia. Amen.” Joy is a deep, soulful consolation. An unwavering, courageous hope in a future that is just and whole for all of humanity.

Join us in proclaiming joy and hope.
