Advent: Look for the dawn while it’s still dark

The season of Advent began this past Sunday. I'm not referring to Advent calendars where we (and our pets) can pop open a daily window to enjoy a treat in the countdown to Christmas. Rather, Advent refers to a season in the Christian Church calendar, the four weeks preceding Christmas. A season of darkness and light. Advent invites us to stop. Notice the darkness. All the things that keep us up at night. Our fears. Uncertainty. Racism. Suffering. Death. Yet, Advent also invites us to wait with hopeful expectation, to envision a world where all that is wrong is made right. Where wars will cease and death will be defeated. Where all will be whole and full.

This Advent invitation is also our Jubilee vision, to seek justice for vulnerable immigrants and refugees as we navigate a broken immigration system. As we wait and look for the dawn. While it is still dark.

Join us in proclaiming hope
